What’s Up with West Highland Terrier Puppies?

July 4, 2019

Welcome the wonderful West Highland Terrier puppies’ world!

At Furry Babies, we pride ourselves on having various types of dogs and that’s why we’re excited about our West Highland Terrier puppies for sale. To share our wealth of knowledge, we’ve gathered some fun facts about West Highland Terrier puppies!

  1. They’re made for going underground.

Seems hard to believe because when our Westie puppies for sale are fully grown, they are quite sturdy dogs. However, they were actually bred to burrow underground to flush out game. These babies can squeeze through some really tight spots!

  1. Their pretty white fur protects them.

In the 1800s, Colonel Edward Donald Malcolm of Poltalloch, Scotland was hunting with a pack of Cairn Terriers, when he accidentally shot his favorite dog because he mistook it for another animal, like a fox or rabbit. After that, he vowed to only hunt with white dogs, because they could easily be seen.

  1. They have double layered coats.

Speaking of their pretty white coats, you should also know that they have a wiry coat on top with an incredibly soft undercoat. These extra layers, so to speak, allows their top coats to shed dirt that they may have picked up when they were underground burrowing somewhere!

  1. They are loud!

Well, we like to be honest here at Furry Babies and we can attest to the fact that our West Highland Terrier puppies for sale are quite the barkers! They can’t help it because they were actually bred to have big barks. This helps them during times when they are burrowing (see #1) and it allows hunters to be able to see and find them. Too, if you’re in the market for a “watchdog” then you’ve gotta get one of our West Highland Terrier puppies for sale! They’ll alert you of any and everything outside that may be approaching.

  1. They need training so be prepared.

These pups are strong-willed and they require a lot of patience when you’re training them. They’re very independent and like to walk to the beat of their own drum. It’s certainly possible to train any of our West Highland Terrier puppies for sale, it will just take some time!
