Three Basic Commands to Teach Your Puppy Today

July 7, 2019

The idea of owning one of our Yorkichon puppies for sale is one of the best!

At Furry Babies, however, we know that simply having one is fun but it’s not all fun and games if you don’t take the time to train your dog. Thankfully, we have some tips for you and have three basic commands that all dogs should know! Take a look at what we’ve compiled.

The Sit Command

By far, this is one of the easiest dog obedience commands to teach, so it’s a good one to start with when you’re training your Yorkichon puppies. Follow these three simple steps:

  • Hold a treat close to your puppy’s nose.
  • Now, move your hand up, while allowing her head to follow the treat, which will cause her to start to lower her bottom.
  • Once she’s in sitting position, say “Sit,” give her the treat or affection and praise.

Repeat this sequence several times a day until you’ve noticed your Yorkichon puppies have mastered it. Eventually, require your dog to sit before mealtime, when you’re leaving for walks, and during other circumstances when necessary.

The Stay Command

Firstly, it’s important that you only attempt this when your pup has completely mastered the “sit” command. It will not work otherwise. This command takes some practice to truly master so be patient and diligent!

  • First, ask your dog to “sit.”
  • Then open the palm of your hand and raise it slightly and then say “stay.”
  • Take a few steps back and reward her with affection or a nutritious treat, if she follows your command.
  • Ultimately, you should start to gradually increase the number of steps you take away from your pup before you reward her again.
  • Always give your pup a treat for staying put, even if it’s just for a few seconds.

The Come Command

This is a command that is also very essential to protecting your pup and keeping her out of trouble! Our Yorkichon puppies for sale are so stinking cute and they’re even cuter when they’re well-trained so this command is equally important.

  • You will need a harness or collar and a leash.
  • Get down to her level and say, “come,” while you’re gently pulling on the leash.
  • When she comes to you, give her a reward.

You’ll keep repeating these steps while she’s still leashed and once it’s mastered, you can remove the leash and continue practicing in enclosed areas.

At Furry Babies, we firmly believe that following these three simple commands will get you and your puppies off to a great start.  After all, one of the reasons why our Yorkichon puppies for sale are so lovable is because they are easy to train. You’ll be happy with the results and you and your pup will create a lasting bond!
