  • Speaking of their sizes, full-grown Chihuahua puppies are 2 to 6 pounds. They’re so tiny and so cute!
  • Chihuahuas’ popularity rose in the 1960s.
  • The average size of a Chihuahua litter is 4 pups.
  • These small dog breeds are typically born via cesarean sections because of the width of the Chihuahua puppies’ heads. Their birth canals are utterly too small for the passage.
  • The Chihuahua is in the small dog breeds and toy breed group and classified as a lapdog companion. The latter couldn’t be further from the truth!
  • Chihuahua noses are various colors. Chihuahuas come in over 30 variations and colors. They include black, brown, gray, and pink. Some are two-toned, as well. All white Chihuahuas of the small dog breeds group are the rarest of all the colors.
  • Chihuahuas are known to be such loyal and devoted dogs, that they’ve actually been known to tragically die of a broken heart when their owners die.

  • One of the famous Taco Bell dogs was a Chihuahua and she lived to the age of 15 years old!
  • Aztec people believed that the early ancestors of Chihuahua puppies had the power to transfer diseases from human to themselves and that this was a noble and honorable sign of protection to their owners. This myth is actually still very prevalent today.
  • They got their name from the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.
