New Year’s Resolutions With Your Dog

December 20, 2018

The new year is almost here and it’s time to refresh, recharge, and set new goals. You can go at it alone or you can do it with a pet pal! Hey, two is better than one, right? At Furry Babies, we’re all about bonding with your pet, so we’ve put together a fun little post to encourage you to reach your new year’s goals while implementing a few with/on your dog. Take a look at our suggestions.

Develop Better Eating Habits

At some point in time, we’re all pretty guilty of sneaking a treat to our pups (and ourselves) or giving them a wee bit more food than they need at feeding time. This is done simply because they look so stinkin’ cute, but we know we shouldn’t overfeed our furry babies. Some dogs, like Rottweilers, are prone to obesity which is unhealthy and hard to lose once the pounds are packed. So for one of your pup’s new year’s resolutions, you gotta be strong and not get sucked into their sad puppy dog eyes! Be mindful of everything you feed your Rottweiler puppy and also stick to what you’re supposed to do.

Teach an Old Dog a New Trick

It’s possible, so disregard that old saying! For the new year, try teaching your dog a new trick. Dogs always crave mental and physical stimulation so here’s your chance. Resolve that you’ll teach your dog at least 3 tricks this year! You both can do it and both of you will enjoy the bonding experience.

Make a Vet Visit

The new year is the perfect time to get a health assessment for your pup. This is especially true if you’ve fallen off a bit. Dogs like Rottweilers would benefit from weight maintenance appointments to keep them on track. Taking the initiative to make a vet appointment for your pup and save you costly medical surprises in the future!

Become More Active

This is a common goal for humans so why not implement it together with your pup? Now is the time to start taking your pup on longer walks. Switch it up a bit, go to places you’ve never been to and venture out! Extend the amount of time that you’re on the walk. For instance, if your usual walk is 15 minutes, pump it up to 20 minutes and then eventually increase it to 30 minutes. Rottweiler puppies love to explore, like most dogs, so they’ll enjoy the new sights and smells.
