Grooming Your Pomeranian Puppies!

August 28, 2018

Pomeranian puppies for sale are most loved and recognized because of their fluffy and thick coats.

They’re iconic, and they’re a hit at local groomers because they require specific care and techniques! Since you’ve decided to purchase Pomeranian puppies for sale, then you undoubtedly already know that they don’t just “wake up like this!” Their coats require some work and we’ve got some tips for you.

Combing the Coat

Even before our Pomeranian puppies for sale leave our home for yours, we make sure that they are combed. This will be essential for you to do, especially between professional grooming visits (which we recommend). Pomeranians get their classic, fluffy look from their double-layered coat. Avoid the temptation of brushing them at will and when they’re dry. When combing, they should be wet with a leave-in conditioner. After lightly spraying the top layer, you can begin combing the hair using a medium to wide tooth comb (not a brush).

Manage the Matting

One thing is for sure, even though you’re following the proper steps for maintaining your Pom’s hair, matting will occur! It may not necessarily be large and unmanageable patches, but they will inevitably happen. No need to fret or worry! The matting on the Pomeranian puppies for sale that you purchased can be quickly addressed. Dampen the matted area and add a little conditioner. Softly work the conditioner into the matted area while gently loosening the clump of fur. If you’re unable to loosen it, it’s best that you cut it because it will inevitably spread and make other areas of your pup’s hair matted!

Bathing Your Furry Baby

In addition to brushing and combing your Pom Pom, you can also bathe your pup at home as opposed to taking him to the groomer. However, you only need to wash your dog once a month. Frequent baths can cause skin irritations and strip your dog of its natural oils.

Before actually bathing your dog, brush its coat to remove any tangles. Because of their tiny sizes, you can bathe your pup in a kitchen sink, for closer control, or in a bathtub. Be sure to use natural shampoos and conditioners, so that you don’t dry out his skin.

To dry your pup, dab the water off gently. Quickly moving the towel around will tangle your pup’s fur. To complete the bathing process, give your Pom a brush and a treat for good behavior!
