3 Ways to Keep Your Bernese Mountain Dog Healthy

July 10, 2019

As humans, it’s quite natural for us to pay close attention to our health and weight.

Quite frankly, being healthy is the “in” thing, so why shouldn’t it be the same for a Bernese Mountain Dog or any dog for that matter? At Furry Babies, we believe it’s extremely important that you stay on top of all health matters involving your pup. After all, we’ve done the work to keep them happy and healthy at our store, so when they leave us for you, we want the very same! With that said, we want to give you 3 methods that you can implement to keep your big Bernese Mountain Dog healthy and free from obesity.

  1. Get Moving!

If we want to keep our hearts healthy, then exercise is the way to go. The very same applies to dogs, especially ones like the Bernese Mountain Dog that may be prone to obesity. To truly keep a handle on your precious pup’s weight, even as a puppy, you must incorporate regular and daily exercise. Take your dog to a park and let him run about or if you’re a bike rider or jogger, take him along with you. This is beneficial for both you and your dog!

  1. Good Eats!

First and foremost, we do not recommend feeding your Bernese Mountain Dog table scraps and human food, in general. There are foods made specifically for dogs, so give them that! We know, it sounds pretty simple, but we also know how tempting it can be to look into their big old soulful brown eyes and want to reward them…just because! Don’t do it. Give your dog treats that are best for their body’s consumption. Along the same lines, we recommend that you create a feeding routine and stick to it! Consistency breeds an obedient dog.

  1. Visit your Vet!

By now, you should have already taken your doggy to visit a vet. You’re on the right track, but in order to really keep a good grip on your dog’s diet and overall well-being, it’s important that you make and keep your regular vet appointments for your pup. Keep track of your pup’s weight and also don’t hesitate to ask your vet or staff for advice. You’d be surprised to learn that not every appointment is a costly one!

Furry Babies knows the importance of monitoring the overall weight and health of any animal and we encourage you to do the same! Now, if you’re ready for more information or have questions, feel free to contact us at 815-552-1379 today or give us a visit!
