Our darling Dachshund puppies are sure to steal your heart!

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the Doxie and visually known as the hotdog dog, is an energetic dog breed, with lots of big personality. Their bark isn’t lacking in this department, either. They are known to be barkers – beware! Dachshund puppies are head-strong and protective, but very lovable. They are very social animals and love their family, wanting to be around them at all times. Their personality is the only thing big on them, however! Can’t wait to check out photos of the Dachshund puppies we have in our locations? Check them out right here!

The lowdown on the Dachshund

The Dachshund puppies, when full grown, will range from 11 to 32 pounds depending on their classification of standard or miniature. In either case, their little legs and long bodies seal their commonalities. You’ll see these beauties found with smooth, long, or wire hair, in various colors and combinations including beige, fawn, blue, chocolate, black, and tan. Once again, no matter the breed variations – their little legs and long bodies will be consistent!  Their unique look is, of course, one of the reasons we love them so much!

Where this interesting breed came from

Dachshund puppies are in the hound family and were originally breed in Germany as hunting dogs, specifically badgers. Consequently, they were called “badger dogs.” Over time, they were developed into the two aforementioned sizes. The standard size continued to hunt badgers as well as wild boar, while the miniatures pursued hare and foxes.

Dachshund owner tidbits

Regarding the health of Dachshund puppies, they are prone to develop obesity. You should exercise your Doxie daily. Take regular walks and monitor their diets. Just as with humans, proper nutrition is necessary to avoid weight gain. They have a predisposition to back injuries due to their elongated bodies, so take care and no people food please!
