Dachshunds are certainly little big dogs!

They are powerfully packed with energy, wit, and affection. They automatically command attention, just with their mere presence alone, but there’s more – way more to this pint sized package. We’ve compiled five captivating and fascinating facts about Dachshund puppies!

Did you know that Dachshunds come in three sizes?

Most people are so used to seeing the miniature Dachshund puppy, but there are actually two more sizes! There’s the standard that can grow up to 32 pounds, tripling that of the popular mini, which is usually somewhere around 10-12 pounds. In Germany, they come in a third size that ranges right between the miniature and the standard, and they’re called Tweenies. How cute?!

Going for Gold!

No medals were awarded, but it’s definitely worth mentioning that a Dachshund puppy named Waldie was the very first Olympic mascot in the 1972 Munich Olympic games. The Olympic marathon route was designed to be in the shape of the Dachshund that year.

Jumping Beans!

We told you that Doxies are powerful, pint sized packages, so it may not be too surprising to learn that they are little jumpers. For some odd reason, they have a reputation for jumping on and off of things, including couches and even the arms of someone holding them. Because they’re known to be a bit unpredictable in this manner, we recommend that you hold them by tucking one had around their hind end and the other underneath to keep your Dachshund puppy from leaping. Their little bodies and long backs need to be protected at all times.

They Really Stick Around…

Dachshund puppies have long lifespans. There was a Doxie named Chanel who lived in New York. She held the Guinness World Record for the oldest living dog, in 2009. When she died she was at the age of 21! Before she held the title, another Dachshund named Otto held it briefly.  We have Dachshund puppies for sale that would love to spend the rest of their long lives with you! Stop by our store today!
